Hey you.
I think we can both agree that the internet is saturated.
Podcasts left, right and centre; “doom-scrolling” on TikTok until your eyes glaze over and YouTube videos oozing from every crevice on your screen. I love that there are voices but things are quick, too quick, they’re “micro”: they happen in a flash and God-forbid you can’t regurgitate what’s trending. Numbers matter more than ever yet, ironically, our concentration span decays, fading away to zero - overconsumption has seeped from the highstreet and onto our screens. We overconsume numbers and timelines and feeds and posts.
Bewriteback is a labour of love: I wanted to return to the original reason I fell in love with the internet: the ability to connect with others, the ability to hear stories from people that are unlike me. The point isn’t clout - I don’t want the same voices harping on about the same old trite. Instead, my focus is on tapping into something I believe to be true: we’re all storytellers and it shouldn’t take a certain number of followers to be able to share yours.
I hope you find something that prompts you to wonder, question, dream, imagine, to laugh or cry or smile or frown. I hope you return too but if you’re here just this once - enjoy.
